Meet The Simon Smith Team | | | | Simon Smith
Simon Gregory Smith was born June 15th, 1970 in Oswego, New York. Oswego is a port city of central New York 35 miles North of Syracuse on the southern shores of Lake Ontario. This strategic port was defended by Fort Ontario during the Revolutionary War. Both his parents Gregory Smith and Ellie Sivers were born and raised in this small rural community, population today of about 20,000. They eventually became High School sweethearts, graduated from Oswego High, and then got married. They both attended college in Oswego in pursuit of a degree in psychology. A year later Simon was born. When Simon was 2, they packed their belongings and headed West to Eugene, Oregon where they both eventually earned their Masters degrees from U of O. Simon's father went on to get his P. H. D. in Psychology and currently teaches at South Eugene and has his own private practice. Simon's mother taught at several elementary schools in the Springfield area over the years, and then became a school counselor at Thurston High School until she retired a few years ago. They still visit their families every summer in Oswego. Simon obtained all of his education here in Eugene. He attended Edison Elementary, Roosevelt Middle School, South Eugene High, and then got his Business degree in Marketing & Management at the University of Oregon. Prior to graduating from U of O he had already been successful at business with his own business as a painting contractor. Upon graduation a close family friend and successful property investor, allowed him to help scout out timber properties to buy, sell and trade. He immediately liked the real estate business and the idea of being his own boss, therefore keeping his options open. This paved the way for his career in Real Estate. He began at Hemenway Realty in Cottage Grove, to learn about timber property. Within a year he was at Coldwell Banker. Simon's ambition and determination lead him to a Million Dollar producer the next year, and 3 years later he was in the top 5 of his company where he has been consistently since. He met his wife, Lori, also of Eugene, in 1994. They married in 1996 and honeymooned in the Cayman's where they enjoyed one of their favorite pastimes together, scuba diving. As Simon's client base and business continued to grow, so did his family. In March of 2000 they had a daughter, Madison, the light of their lives. That is of course along with their 3 cats, Tasha, Ted and Oliver. And their 2 dogs Mckinley, a 5 yr. old golden retriever and Samson a 3 y. old Springer, Chow mix. Samson is definitely the alpha of the family. Madison has seemed to inherit our love of animals. One of the highlights of her day is to crawl into mom & dad's bed and call the "boys" up to give them their morning love. (If they're not already taking up most of the bed from the night before!). As dedicated as Simon is to his business, he still finds a lot of time for his family, friends and hobbies. Every morning the entire family goes on their morning walk along the river. A ritual that not by choice seems to get earlier and earlier in the morning...thanks to the dog's influence. Weekends are spent either on family outings, socializing with family and friends, or participating in some of his favorite hobbies. Such as golf, snow and water skiing, and salmon fishing every summer. He is also a connoisseur of fine wines. Every summer he and a group of his close friends plan a day of wine tasting at local vineyards for his birthday. Every Sunday you'll find him scouring the classifieds for that perfect "classic" car that he's always dreamt of. But his favorite pastime is Duck football. As an alumni and sponsor he is active in supporting his "team". Which includes any and all bowl games. Go Ducks! | | | | Scott Shirk
Scott Shirk originally hails from Atlanta, GA and until moving to Eugene, had lived there all his life. He attended Georgia Southern University where he earned a Bachelors of Science in Speech Communications. Upon graduating, Scott had the opportunity to live in London for 6 months and traveled extensively throughout Europe. Being of Norwegian descent, Scott was able to fulfill a dream of visiting the fjords of Norway. Once back in the States, real estate seemed a natural outlet to put his major to work and quickly began working with an investment firm in the Atlanta area. His family still lives in the Atlanta area, his mother working in the public schools and his father working with FEMA. He also has one younger brother who currently attends the University of Georgia’s doctorial program. Having lived his whole life in the same city, Scott decided he was ready for a change. He packed all his belongings into his car and headed for the great Northwest. Since moving to Eugene, he has surprisingly found himself involved in the town’s theater scene; acting in shows at the Very Little Theater and The Willamette Rep. His favorite past time though, is drumming and has been playing the drums since age 13. He was lucky enough to become involved with the drumline here at the University of Oregon, which allowed him to catch the Ducks football team in action. Scott has found that his eclectic background serves him well for the diverse arena of real estate. When asked, “Why did you move all the way from Atlanta to Eugene?”(As he often is!) The answer is simple; it’s beautiful here. | | | | Debra Jurasevich

About Appraisals >Working With A Real Estate Agent
It is not unusual for homeowners to yield to the temptation to try to sell their own home. It seems easy enough--just place an ad in the weekend paper and wait for buyers to show up. Although it may seem simple, real estate sales transactions are extremely complex proceedings.
The first pitfall can come with pricing your property realistically. Homeowners often price their property too high initially, then drastically slash the price when weeks go buy without an offer. Even if a prospective buyer agrees to the initial asking price, there could be complications if the buyers begin to feel that they have agreed to pay too much, or if the lender's appraisal values the property at far less than the agreed-upon price. Some clients hire agents to market their home professionally after weeks or months of trying to sell their own home without success, or after their FSBO transaction fell through.
